Activities

Learning & Play

Children learn best through play so I strive to offer a variety of activities that will support them in their development. As an Early Years Provider, I must deliver the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to all children in my care from birth up to age 5. I provide activities and resources that will support their learning in each of the seven development areas:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

I keep learning folders for all children not yet attending school and will also make notes in your child’s contact diary. These records will enable me to make plans on how I can help your child move onto the next stage of their development and are also of course useful for you to see how your child is progressing.

Whilst there are no learning and development requirements older children, if your child is 5 and still in the EYFS, I will need to talk to your child’s school teacher about how I can best compliment their learning during their time with me.

The activities and resources I use in my setting include:

  • Books and DVD’s
  • Small world toys
  • Construction toys (Lego, Duplo, mega blocks etc)
  • Pretend play (toy kitchen, shop, doctors set etc).
  • Dressing up Clothes
  • Water play
  • Arts and Crafts.
  • Music, singing and rhymes
  • Cooking & Baking
  • Gardening
  • Outdoor play and equipment
  • Computers / ICT Equipment
  • Outings & Playgroups

Television

I allow limited TV viewing consisting of Nickelodeon, Ceebies and the Disney Channel only. On occasion I will let the children pick a child appropriate video to watch. Children are NEVER required to sit and watch TV, and TV is not offered in place of Free Play or Learning Activities.

Trips Out

At times, I may plan a visit to the nearby Park, Museum or Mother & Baby Club in which I may need to use Public transport. No child will be permitted to go on such trips without a permission form being completed and signed by their Parent. No child will ever be left unattended and will be supervised by me at all times.

Parents will be notified one week prior to the trip of where we will be going and the time we will return.

Outdoor Play

Weather permitting the children will be allowed to play outside in the front garden.  The children will be kept safe by a child safe gate, therefore keeping them from gaining access to the busy street and I will be supervising them at all times.
